Wow!! I love this! I’m a Navajo from the US and my tribe is a matriarchal society. Therefore, our mother’s 1st clan is passed down through each generation. We carry 4 clans, one from our mother, father, maternal grandfather, and paternal grandfather. Like your tribe, we also believe people who share the same clan are related in one way or another so we have to marry someone with a different set of clans. 😊

I am of Scottish and māori (indigenous New Zealand/Aotearoa) heritage. Scottish have clans, and māori have iwi. I know 4 clans and 3 iwi I belong to :) I view knowing where ancestors come from as very important knowledge. Though, as long as someone was more than 2 generations of relatives away from me, I'd consider being with them even if we shared a name in common.

Mobs (clan) in Aus have done this too, in their own way. I love it 🥰. We had “meeting places of the heart” to go and socialise and meet people outside their mob (clan). I happen to live in a previous one now and it’s so beautiful
