@romaniinfo: Born into a Romani family in Toronto in 1959. As a child, he constantly developed his interest in drawing. At the age of 12, he mastered the technique of perspective, and his knowledge of architecture allowed him to bring imagined buildings to life, as well as begin painting his first pictures. After becoming acquainted with the works of Dalí and Tanguy, Gonsalves painted his first surrealist paintings. Magritte's and Escher's "magical realism" had a great influence on his future work. In the years following his college graduation, Gonsalves worked as an architect, but also painted illusionistic frescoes and theatrical sets. After a successful appearance at a street art exhibition in Toronto in 1990, Gonsalves devoted himself entirely to painting.
