@theandyharrington: Most male presenters lose the room in the first thirty seconds. Not from what they say. From where their hands are. There is a zone of influence for the hands on stage. Above the waist. Around the chest. Visible to the room. Inside that zone, the body reads as authority and offer. The audience receives. Outside that zone, the same words land differently. Hands in pockets reads as discomfort. Hands hanging below the waist reads as apology. Hands clasped in front reads as defence. None of that is your message. All of it is what the body told the room before you opened your mouth. The fix is two moves. Feet facing the audience. Squared up, not angled away. Hands above the waist. Even at rest. Especially at rest. This is the cheapest authority upgrade in public speaking. Costs nothing. Visible from the back row.
