“Are you black? Or did you put something on to be black?” 😯 That’s definitely not something I ever thought I’d hear about my skin colour in Sri Lanka, where so many people look so much like me. “Your colour is different,” said a man who looked about the same shade as me. 🤔 Along with that came a steady stream of guesses, assumptions, and observations about my skin colour, race, nationality, and identity. “Indian?” “Sri Lankan?” “Black American?” “African?” “Tamil?” It felt like my skin colour always entered the conversation before I did. Sometimes curious, sometimes awkward, and sometimes genuinely hard to respond to. The thing is, I don't think most of these interactions came from a place of negativity. Perhaps it was simply people trying to understand me, place me, connect with me, or make sense of someone who… didn't quite fit into a box they were familiar with. Maybe I am a little harder to place. 🧐 But spending weeks hearing people's guesses about my identity made me think about how much appearance shapes the way we understand and place one another. Skin colour. Features. Clothes. Accents. Sometimes those things explain a lot. Sometimes they explain very little. Because identity is layered, shaped by history, migration, culture, region, language, and most importantly our individual lived experiences. Very rarely just down to how we look like or where people assume we’re from. 🙏🏾 #srilanka #darkskin #blackbeauty

Attorneys for Stefon Diggs said in court that an internal financial review found his former personal chef, Jamila “Mila” Adams, had been overpaid, disputing her claims that she was not fully compensated during her employment. A member of Diggs’ finance team testified that an audit of invoices, reimbursements, and payment records was conducted after discrepancies were identified. According to testimony, the review found instances of duplicate reimbursement requests and expenses that had already been covered through Diggs’ accounts. The finance team said the audit concluded Adams received more than she was owed, with testimony indicating a surplus of more than $2,500, while additional amounts could not be fully reconciled due to incomplete documentation. The defense presented the findings to challenge Adams’ claims that she was not paid for certain periods, an issue central to the case. #MilaAdams #StefonDiggs #testimony #JamilaAdams #Nfl
