recent England squads have gone further because they're closer to one another and actually bond. the "golden era" of England didn't. there was an interview with John Terry/Gerrard I believe with other England past players and it was stated that they never ate or hung out together. Liverpool players ate/sat together. same with other teams in the squad etc. and their egos clashed so much and they all very much regret it. shambles really with the depth and quality we had back then.
