@ml.horsemanship: Teaching you horse to park at the mounting block is a lot simpler than you think, here are some top tips for when you're practicing: 1. Imagine you are fishing for the hindquarter, your stick is the rod. Cast it out, draw it back towards you 2. You can up the energy but not the intensity. The tap is gentle, we can make the movement of the stick bigger (wider arch) or faster, but never harder. You can also move your feet and click 3. If your horse is really stuck, ask them to walk forward and guide their head towards the fence whilst you tap. It naturally encourages them to bring their hind in and you can reward that movement 4. Some horses find the mounting block hard, if they start to panic, return to the floor next to the block and ask them until they get the hang of it. Then stand on the first step, then the second, until you're at the top Every horse is different and learns at different speeds. Be patient and have fun! #horse #horsemanship #equestrianlife #horsetrainer #equine

Why are mounting blocks such a thing? My Dad was still riding at 72, 16+hand horses and never needed one. As kids we found a fence a good option or a leg up
