argentina has a rich history and tons of success, especially within its continental tournaments. it’s dominated for decades, hence why they’ve won world cups way before messi. portugal, as a football team, were nothing and won absolutely nothing in turn before ronaldo showed up. he gave a country with no footballing success a euros, two nation leagues. he’s fundamentally turned portugal into what it is today, a powerhouse of a nation expected to win a tournament that they had never won before in their entire history. he is significantly more impressive than messi in terms of an international career, although i accept that messi will forever be overall greater than him imo. as such, stop comparing them in relation to international success as it’s not a fair playing field. enjoy them while they play their final tournament. both changed their country for the better.
