It’s literally just an undercut 😭 you can see where the hair ends, and it’s shorter. The bun is tied with her own hair, so when she takes it down it covers the undercut and looks normal and long

The real answer is a genuine, bonafide continuity error. The animation team has admitted to several continuity errors just due to the nature of how the film was created. It's just one of those design things you accept and move on from while trying not to overthink it lol

I think it is supposed to be sort of like this, but fallen. So not a pixie at all, but an Edwardian hairstyle that was sloppily done and has loosened at the back.

It's over exaggerated baby/nape hairs that weren't long enough to be tied up. I have a friend who has super thick hair who has lot of baby hairs and this is what her hair looks like when she ties it up
