Alito's dissent was disgusting. He basically said it's in the constitution, but it shouldn't be because it's dangerous. He has no loyalty to the constitution, only to conservatism.

I think the dissent had to do more with the meaning "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof." Why is that clause included in the amendment unless there are people born and naturalized here who are NOT subject to the jurisdiction thereof.

No, the context is essential because it was meant to deal with slaves. Finally the Wong Kim Ark case dealt with legal residents. This is why by a 5-4 margin the Court there is no birthright citizenship. Kavanaugh agreed but went with the majority because he believed the power here lies with Congress, not the President
