I still love Project Hail Mary, but Andy Weir saying that there's nothing political about it? bruh.

That’s why I really respected David Lynch’s refusal to ”explain” his works. He truly respected the importance of letting the audience finding their own meaning in it.

Call me by your name: I thought it was a criticism on pedophilia then I watched the producer’s interview and read the book.. It’s supposed to be about love in a coming of age - way

That's definitely how I felt watching The Drama. Emma didn't actually harm anyone and dedicated her life to making up for it. The other 3 harmed ppl AND didn't actually do anything to make up for it

I thought Saltburn was pretty good until I learned that Emerald Fennell wanted us to root for Barry Keoghan’s character.

that's because sometimes the art goes beyond what the creator wanted it to mean

The thing about "art isn't made by the artist but by the interaction with the public" or something like that

I knew this message would be about cancel culture as soon as you said the guy did nothing wrong and people were hunting him. I’m like yah that’s what weird conservatives think all cancel culture is

"Chose to listen to Woody Allen over his friends" hello??? You're totally in this discussion it's like the idea of what the artist intended versus what the viewer interpreted. Both can be true at the same time so I think this is one of those situations where you take what you learned from the movie just like the creator takes what they intended

To me the drama also portrays the propaganda a kid on the internet can so easily fall for. I would say I don’t blame a kid for doing that, but then again, there’s Rachel

the one thing I don't like about the thing 1982 is how vocal John carpenter was (trying) to be about the ending after the fact. It was meant to be a 100% open ending, up to interpretation but after the movie Carpenter kept trying to confirm one ending or another and whilst he eventually admitted that he wasn't sure himself, it caused a lot of strife in the fandom with everyone saying "actually the ending was confirmed to be-" 😭😭

this happened to me IN PERSON. I got to interview the director of my fave movie of that year and when I asked about the multiple themes and layers their response was that those werent really there, and that only the most obvious interpretation was. Ugh.

not a film, but I used to be a huge fan of Marilyn Manson, and loved how he was playing a character through all of his work. Then I found out it wasn't a character. He's just a bad person pretending to be a good person pretending to to be a bad person.

Coraline is that movie for me. Im glad the artists who made the film are so much a part of it VS Gaiman who simply inspired Laika to make it. That piece is thankfully more Laika's baby than anything with how much rich visual symbolism they used, right down to details in the wallpaper of the mansion foreshadowing things to come.
