Regulating your nervous system starts with this, overthinking is a body state, not an intelligence problem. If you feel short tempered, urgent, or you notice yourself doing everything fast (even mopping the floor like your life depends on it), that is your nervous system in sympathetic mode. Fight or flight. And in that state, thinking harder does not help. It fuels the loop. The fastest way out is not more mindset work. It is getting back into your body through your breath. Use the Physiological Sigh: 1. Inhale through the nose 2. Quick second inhale on top (top off the lungs) 3. Long slow exhale through the mouth Do 2 to 5 rounds. This works because the double inhale re opens collapsed alveoli, improving gas exchange, and the long exhale activates your parasympathetic system through the vagus nerve, lowering arousal fast. Stanford research (Huberman lab, Andrew Huberman and Dr. David Spiegel) has shown this is one of the most effective breathing patterns for reducing stress quickly, down shifting the nervous system, and restoring cognitive control. When you regulate first, you stop overthinking automatically. Because your brain is no longer in threat mode. Then you can respond. Then you can think clearly.
