One of the biggest growth conversations in Gallatin this week wasn't about a new development. It was about the rules that guide future development. After a two-and-a-half-year review, the Gallatin Planning Commission recommended approval of a completely updated zoning ordinance. The new code is designed to modernize how the city reviews new development, business changes, and property improvements while making the process more consistent for property owners and developers. Some of the biggest updates include clearer "change of use" rules for businesses, protections that help preserve many of Gallatin's older buildings, and updated standards for items like landscaping, parking, sidewalks, and stormwater as properties are redeveloped. The recommendation now moves to the Gallatin City Council, where commissioners have also requested a joint work session to walk through the details before any final vote.
