But during World War II, the city was heavily bombed in 1945, destroying large parts of its historic centre. For decades, many of its landmarks stood damaged or completely gone. What makes Dresden special is how much of it was rebuilt — piece by piece, stone by stone — using old plans, photographs, and even original stones recovered from the ruins. Some of the most famous landmarks include: ⛪ Frauenkirche 🏛️ Zwinger Palace 🎨 Semper Opera House 👑 Dresden Castle 🌉 Brühl’s Terrace, also called the “Balcony of Europe” Today, Dresden is a mix of beauty, tragedy, memory, and rebuilding — basically a city that got knocked down and said, “annoying, but we rebuild.” 🚆 How to get there: From Berlin, Dresden is around 2 hours by train. From Prague, it takes about 2–2.5 hours, making it a perfect stop between Germany and Czech Republic. exactly!!! and every city everywhere will say that they need to build modern because of planning requirement x, y and z. and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, despite surveys proving most ppl prefer traditional architecture aswell as the positive psychological effects of said type of architecture.
