The greatest interpreter of Liszt’s music alive is Cyprien Katsaris. He recorded all of Liszt’s transcriptions of Beethoven’s symphonies, transcribed Liszt’s second concerto for solo piano, and his interpretations of Liszt’s transcriptions of Schubert’s music from the S. 563, S. 558, and S. 560 set such as Erlkönig, Die Forelle (I have only ever seen Katsaris perform the ossia trill), and Ave Maria are great. I think the best interpreter of Liszt’s music ever was Emil von Sauer. His interpretations of Mazeppa and Réminiscences de Don Juan are insane. He was a student of Liszt. Another student of Liszt, Martin Krause, described Sauer as “the legitimate heir of Liszt; he has the most charm and geniality of any Liszt pupil.”
