It’s tough because almost every trip I’ve done solo has been amazing except turkey, where a man assaulted me, and Zanzibar where I felt very unsafe often. I don’t want to discourage people from traveling to these places because they’re beautiful and many people travel there and have no problems AND I don’t think we should paint solo travel with rose colored glasses

I’m sorry that happened to you. Having said that, I’ve traveled to 38 countries solo or with my 2 kids; and never once have I felt unsafe, in any of them 🤷♀️

I love this nuance. When I travel solo v with my husband v my best friend the options are different for what works for safe travel. We need more nuance in travel conversations without demonizing places or cultures.

I was told the United States was completely safe, yet someone tried to open my hotel’s room door, and I was followed several times by very suspicious men while shopping at a supermarket, among other things. The point is that every destination has its risks. That’s why it’s so important to do your own research instead of blindly following advice from random TikTokers. Read official travel advisories, look at crime statistics, watch documentaries, and use reliable travel guides. People should make informed decisions before they travel.

Ah shit so sorry you went through that. Sometimes as a guy I get so psyched when talking about my next trip I don’t realize how lucky I am to be able to travel solo without fear of sexual assault. Glad to hear it didn’t stop you from wanting to continue traveling. Wishing you better travels sister!

yep. there's a difference between overly limiting yourself from fear and not recognizing risks exist and doing what you can to protect yourself (although sometimes there's only so much you can do)
