I think it’s genuinely so amazing how the first to permamently halt the Horde’s advance, were people who are essentially of the same land. Persians and Europeans didn’t know how to handle horse archers at their level, and constantly blindly chased them whenever they would retreat. The Kipchaks however, rode the same breed of horses, used identical composite bows, and fully understood steppe warfare tactics. Really says a lot about this generational army, how they were only ever first truly defeated by a mirror image of itself.
