The startups are bands, the VC firms are record labels, and the dynamics are the record industry back when you could make money selling records. They like young founders bc they’re inexperienced, but the founders likely to successfully exit are on average in their 40’s.

THIS OBSERVATION IS SO ON POINT. People flock to prestige so so quickly. It feels icky a lot of the times, but i guess this is just human behavior at scale idk. Lots and lots of LARPing going on with founders and tech thought leaders too. I’m just trynna maintain my humanity these days😭 thanks for ur perspective, glad somebody else sees it

You are the perfect person to report on this, thank you! Great message, “not everyone is for you,” no truer statement!… I’m going to expand on this, to drive your point home. When you’re in it (feeling like the only way to win is knowing the right people, etc.) this can feel so real… BUT… I started my company at 47. The great REALITY, and I’m speaking to those that feel like you’re on the “unpopular or out list,” don’t buy into it, it’s all a bunch of psychological bs! I’ve been in tech for over 25 years predominantly as a product/UX designer turned solo-founder. I’m living proof that no one or nothing can “cancel” you…. and even gossip or smear campaigns have no efficacy. NO ONE has that much control over your success and destiny AND there is no such thing as missing the boat. Only your thinking will cause you to fail, NEVER circumstances (caring what others think, comparing yourself to others, buying into fear and being stuck in self pity/excuses, “if only I had…”). The only thing anyone will ever regret is not trying and not trying AGAIN. There are a million paths to success, if one doesn’t work, pick another way. Theres always a way! … and for a little more credibility, (for everyone stuck in excuses) I was abused all my life, raised by narcissists that actively tried to undermine my success physically and mentally. I’m also a recovered alcoholic with 7 years of sobriety. I had no financial help and no networking connects to start with. I built myself up from, literally, nothing. If I can do this, YOU can do this! Xx

💯 on twitter-it’s been getting worse too. There’s a “silicon gang”-a small group of influential insiders in the semiconductor space. Some leaders hyperfixate on these people for their own egos and can’t see the impact from neglecting their actual audience! I see myself as an anthropologist of sorts too-and I have the same boundaries. Love your content 💗
