@artisticipse: Canvas prep 101 📝 1. Apply a layer of gesso 2. Lightly spray the surface with water and wet-sand until smooth 3. Repeat the process a few times for an extra polished finish 4. Spray the back of the canvas with water to help tighten it This is how I get that super-smooth surface people always compliment in my paintings #arttips #canvasprep #paintingtips #arthacks
you can also use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun

Hot take from someone who went to art school- learn to build and stretch your own canvases (folding the corners is a bit tricky but a lot like wrapping holiday gifts) - then gesso and sand 2x (or more!) - it’ll end up looking higher quality simply from that :))

I've done that spraying of the back when I fine paintings that have been warped. it tightens them right back up.

Do you also gesso canvases that say that they are pre prepped?

False information. Texture of canvas is an artist choice and has nothing to do with quality.

So we use a spray Gesso. Do you know if there’s like a huge difference in that, they’ve worked for me so far but if the paint one where you’re rolling it on the canvas gives you better results than I’d rather do that. It just adds a little more steps.

Paint roller= genious! So glad I saw this! I have a hard time seeing where I already applied gesso with a brush and using a brush I can’t remember where I just applied it
