I have Capital One. This very thing happened to me. After talking to several supervisors, I discovered I had over ten TOKENS on my credit card. They will cancel all TOKENS upon your request. I requested a block of all future TOKENS, but Capital One refused. Now, I have to call once a week to make sure there r no TOKENS on my account. They allow the merchant to attach a Token, and thats not right.

Banker here. Visa has a service that is automatically turned on called “visa account updater”. What this does is after a card is closed, a company can request the new card info from visa and visa will give it to them if your opted in. You must either call your bank or potentially visa to request this option to be turned off. I’ve never heard of a company creating a virtual token for an account that not even you have the account number for. Your credit card is attached to a visa account however you don’t have access to that account number only the card number. So this virtual token idea doesn’t make sense. However, you can turn off the option of updating companies with the new card number.

Yes we did know this. All reoccurring subscriptions carry over to the new cards.

I never use my actual credit cards. I use paid credit cards like gift cards on all my purchases online. So they can't attached to a gift card..
