@aircraft_engineer_: Aircraft Engine Stage 1 Compressor Blade Repair – Precision Beyond the Blend The video shows a typical example of a Stage 1 compressor blade leading-edge damage that may be repairable by blending, provided it falls within the limits specified in the Engine Maintenance Manual (EMM) or Component Maintenance Manual (CMM). At first glance, blending may seem like a simple repair. However, from an aircraft maintenance engineering perspective, it is a highly controlled process that directly affects engine reliability and safety. A proper blade repair includes several critical steps: ✔️ Damage assessment against the approved repair limits. ✔️ Careful blending while maintaining the original aerodynamic profile. ✔️ Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) after the repair to ensure no cracks or hidden defects remain. ✔️ Final dimensional inspection to verify compliance with the maintenance manual. One question that is often asked is: “What about blade imbalance after blending?” The answer is simple: balance is never left to chance. Engine manufacturers specify the maximum amount of material that can be removed from each blade and also limit the number of repaired blades allowed within a rotor stage. These limits are established to preserve the rotor’s mass distribution and aerodynamic performance without exceeding acceptable vibration levels. This is why every repair must strictly follow the approved repair scheme. Exceeding the allowable blend limits—even by a small amount—can alter blade weight, affect rotor balance, increase vibration, reduce component life, and potentially compromise engine performance. In aircraft maintenance, we don’t just remove damaged material—we restore the component while ensuring it continues to meet the engine manufacturer’s airworthiness requirements. Every gram matters. Every millimeter matters. Every repair matters. video credit to #flyakiles #AircraftMaintenance #AircraftEngine #Aviation #MRO

If you removed any material with filing, won’t the blade be out of balance? I’m thinking like when a wheeel weight falls of my truck tire.

Wasn’t there an update about using diamond files only due to the carbide affecting the chemical of the fan b,axes?

tengo entendido que hay lijas específicas para poder hacer el blend out y no con una lima de una navaja, hay una nota específica que me dice el porqué debo usar las lijas con numero específico, ni la 80 deja usar y ahora viene este man con una lima.
