It's not small, but Notepad++ is free, has a load of features, and no AI or accounts to log into (it has tabs too).

yeah the ai stuff is unnecessary but i prefer the windows 11 notepad over the 10. the tabs and styling are genuinely useful

The tabs is actually good. But the AI, spellcheck and microsoft account is just not needed. Seems like a lot of people are missing the point here. Yes its simple, its trivial even. But its showing how things could be when microsoft doesnt vibe code slop apps.

The cool thing is is that he re-wrote the application logic, but he let the operating system provide the common infrastructure. The way native Windows apps are meant to be written.
