I don’t think the absence of a large enthusiast community means data centers are disliked. Unlike trains, ships, or aircraft, data centers are intentionally designed to be invisible, highly secure, and inaccessible, leaving little for the public to observe or experience. Much of what makes them fascinating, including the electrical systems, cooling infrastructure, networking, and server architecture, is hidden behind restricted access. Enthusiasm for these technologies does exist, but it is spread across communities focused on homelabs, enterprise networking, servers, cloud infrastructure, and power systems rather than organized around data centers themselves. Their lack of a visible fan culture is therefore better explained by their hidden nature than by a lack of appreciation.
