Watching matches like Senegal vs. Belgium is frustrating. From what I saw, the defender did not make enough contact to justify a penalty, yet the decision changed the outcome of the game. We've seen similar controversial calls involving African teams before, and it leaves many fans feeling that Africa is not always treated fairly on the biggest stage.
Whether or not there is bias, FIFA and match officials must do everything possible to ensure fairness. When a wrong decision decides a match, suspending or punishing a referee afterward does not change the result. The damage has already been done.
Africa has produced some of the world's greatest footballers. African players have helped clubs and national teams achieve incredible success across the world. They deserve the same respect, fairness, and equal treatment as every other player and every other nation.
Instead of looking down on Africa, the world should recognize the talent, passion, and potential that the continent continues to produce. We are all created by God, and no race or continent is greater than another. Football should unite us, not divide us.
My hope is that every team—whether from Africa, Europe, Asia, or the Americas—is judged by the same rules, with fair officiating and equal respect. That is what the beautiful game deserves.
