@the_mrs_crowder: Maybe this is the conversation more of us need to have. For so many years, we knew exactly who we were because someone needed us every minute of every day. This next chapter isn't about loving our kids less—it's about rediscovering ourselves. If this resonates with you, finish this sentence in the comments: "I'm rediscovering..." ❤️ #AdultKids #MidlifeWomen #WomenOver40 #Motherhood #LifeAfter40
….ty. I don’t even know where to start doing that.

I didn’t prepare myself at all. The first year was so so hard. But thankfully it does get easier. At least is has for me. I became a grandma and I am needed again and this time I can slow down and enjoy the little moments.

I never thought of them growing up. we do all these things and little do we know, we don't prepare ourselves for them to leave us.

This spoke to my soul! My youngest is 18. I have a 20 year old and a 26 year old. I will be a grandma for the first time in October. I’m not handling their independence very well. All I know is being their mom.

So very true! I tell my adult kids “I was so busy teaching them how to survive without me, that I forgot to prepare myself how to survive when they left home”

I feel this to the depth of my core. I always said I’d never make my kids my whole life but here we are…I don’t know who I am outside of their mom and learning that is hard work and kinda depressing bc I want to know me again.

I am currently struggling with this. All 4 of my children are now adults and no longer need me. They are all responsible adults, living on their own, and paying their own bills. I say the same thing. No one need me for anything and I don't know who I am outside of being a mom. I had my 1st child at 17 and now I'm almost 45. What do I do now?

There is such a grieving period that no one but a mom understands. I felt it when my son graduated and 10 yrs later when he got engaged. Super happy for him but you mourn the relationship that is changing.

This is exactly what I’m dealing with right now! I’m 37 & had my son at 20. As soon as he started driving last year I went into a depression. & now it’s getting worse bc he is about to be a senior and I know I’m just counting the days until he officially goes off. He’s my one & only! I hate when people tell me “you have so much time for yourself now!” But it’s honestly just lonely & quiet at home now. It’s truly painful & slightly pathetic.

I went through this a few years ago. My girls are successful adults and they don’t need me. But luckily for me they want me. It took me awhile to remember who I was before I was a wife and mom. I was fun! And I work at bringing that girl back. Only wiser and with more money! lol. This chapter is good when we except it.
