Nordic Curls 🙅‍♂️, Nordic Curls are a waste of time. Hearing that might hurt some feelings, but just because an exercise is hard, doesn’t mean it’s good. A nordic curl is hard, really hard, but it doesn’t take the knee, and in turn the hamstring, through all that much range of motion, it’s just really hard at the mid range. Doing exercises that cover deeper ranges of hamstring theoretically makes more sense; we should train the hamstring both at the hip and at the knee, which also has a stretched and shortened options to cover both ends of the loading spectrum. We have lying hamstring curls in hip extension where we train it short and the seated leg curl in hip flexion to train length, then we have variations of hip hinges to load the hamstrings through the hips, as opposed to the knee. There should also be some consideration for rotation of the shin, as this directly contributes to the line of tissue you are training; internal rotation yields inner hamstrings, external rotation yields outer. This doesn’t mean nordic curls are bad, just that they don’t cover all your bases, at all really, regardless of how much they smoked you during the workout. They can be a great option to train mid ranges of motion, especially explosive or eccentrics as an athlete. Exercises are just training tools, and how we use them has context to it. If this resonated with you, and you want to learn more, comment “Skool” so I can send you a free invite to our community and we can hit the books together. #BodyBuildingB4BodyBreaking #RedefiningThePractice #BrawnMeetsBrain
