@sandwichesofhistory: Olive and Anchovy Sandwich (1943) on Sandwiches of History You know what these anchovies need? Briny olives. Ok, so the Olive and Anchovy Sandwich starts off sounding like a salt lick. And it is. I know what you’re thinking, “what if you rinse the filets before mashing?” These were packed in oil, not salt. So rinsing might’ve helped a smidge but not enough to overcome their nature. But here’s the thing, this has a mysterious third ingredient that might help tamp the salinity down! Not really, it does nothing. Still worth giving it a go. And as I like to do from time to time, let’s see if anyone is reading this far down. Let me know my commenting “purple monkey dishwasher” in the comments (no need for the quotes, and yes, that is a Simpsons reference). Gracias. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

This might have worked if you had use focaccia bread, a little olive oil instead of butter and spread anchovy paste very thin and rinse the brine from the olives before you chopped them. Garnish with fresh chopped Italian parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice. But I think I plus it up too much to call it the same recipe. 😂

I appreciate your explanation of the plus ups. When they work and when they don’t, I like the why behind it.

Barry, do you think if you had rinsed the olives, it would have helped?

This would have been a sandwich you serve your guests when you want them to leave.

i think this would have worked better if you substituted the anchovies with tuna, the olives with celery and carrots and the cream with mayo, but i’m not a pro chef or anything so maybe not.
