As a grad school therapist there’s more than 8 addiction models we go by, addiction is multifaceted and this theory that’s being posited is credible, however, there’s so many layers that go into addiction. Connection is important for many reasons, and when lacking- helps us to understand the comorbidity behind any addiction (there’s other types of addictions than substances).

I think there's another element to it. the opposite of addiction is connection. and the opposite of addiction is freedom. you can be in a cage of your own thinking, your own conditioning, indoctrination. that cage, that absence of agency, confidence, and power to act can be the root of addiction. when people feel they have freedom, a choice, then they are free to do something other than succumb to an addiction. Whitney houston, Prince and Michael Jackson all lived in a cage of others perception of them. did they really have a choice? they were all locked in to an incredible obligation to perform, they were all trapped in the public eye, and they were all isolated by their wealth and fame. what if they had the choice to live however they wanted, wherever they wanted, without the pressure from others? we create prisons in our mind. free your mind and the rest will follow!
