Building a Cozy Wall of Cat Nests for Stray Cats Our courtyard has become home to a wall full of stray cats. With the rain pouring down again, all the little ones have taken shelter in the warehouse corridor, warmed by a glass skylight above. Some have found refuge in the cat nests, but I noticed that half of them still lack a warm place to sleep. Moved by their plight, I decided to build warm cat nests along the wall to give them a cozy haven. I ventured into the mountains to search for usable materials, accompanied by my little feline followers. I gathered thin shrub branches, tied them tightly, and soaked them in the pond overnight to soften them for weaving. Inspired by memories of watching my grandfather weave frames when I was a child, I attempted to weave a cat nest myself. After two days of effort, I finally completed one. While it wasn't perfect, it was comparable to store-bought ones, so I bought 18 more to ensure all the cats had a nest. After marking the wall and drilling holes, I hammered the steel bars into place and set up cat baskets, securing them with cable ties. The wall of cat nests is sturdy enough to hold even our 10-kilogram Dundan. The "Sky-reaching Tree" cat nest I previously made serves as an ideal ladder for them to climb. I also bought fabric to make small mats, stuffing them with pearl cotton for extra warmth. The shop owner, upon hearing that I was making mats for stray cats, kindly gave me a 30-yuan discount. Now, the kittens have cozy, elevated nests where they can stay warm and indulge their love for climbing high places. Watching these stray cats find comfort in their new homes fills me with joy. Northern winters are harsh, especially for strays, and many don't survive the cold season despite their efforts to grow strong.
