To be honest, Hero Kunigami was something that makes sense if he lost. Imagine someone so talented, a almost perfect ideal where he all go into, wanting to be the hero. But when he felt into despair he had to drop that hero ideal of himself in order to make a score. Real sacrifice makes us give up what makes us, what truly is us, to dislike his wildcard, only shows the difference between that idealogy and our minds. No one wants a hero, only someone who makes the game entertaining.
