This. People are so often judged by what they manage to do without anyone asking what support exists behind them. When there is no one to call, no one to take over, no emergency backup and no one quietly sharing the load, you have to organise your entire life differently. It’s one of the reasons I wrote When You Don’t Have a Village. We talk so much about resilience, but nowhere near enough about what it actually costs to be your own support system.

no support system is horrible. its more likely to lead to homelessness, financial crisis so easily, it’s isolating, effects your mental health….like fr people don’t understand unless they’ve been there
