Differences between Steam and Sony: - Refunds are allowed - You don't need a subscription to play online - Once a game is purchased, they can NEVER take it off your library or stop you from reinstalling it, even if it's been taken off the playstore

while Steam is absolutely goated, we can't forget that you don't really own most of the games

If your account gets hacked on steam, you don’t get an email saying you got your account back. You get one saying “we found them”

The only reason I use a console is because it’s still physical. Removing the disk removes all reason for me to keep playing on PS because steam is better in literally every way without that one factor

The difference here is on computer, I can sail the high seas, you cannot take a game from me, I can always get it back. All Sony ever has to do is just decide all of their licences have ended for 90% of the games in my library, and I'll have lost 900 games and never get them back. On PC? You know damn well I how I can get them back. Consoles are finished. Sony recently announced too that they're not selling the PS6 at a loss, that will be €1k on launch. Only a fool won't have a PC this Christmas.

like you said Trust. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have shown us again and again that they are not to be trusted and that money matters to them over gamers.

yeah steam and gog have earned the trust needed for an all digital platform. especially with how they, mostly gog, have worked towards preserving and maintaining older games

Also steam doesn't have a monopoly. There's options. When playstation goes digital only, they'll have complete control of the market and can charge whatever they want. Prices are gonna skyrocket.

I think the major issue people are looking over here is the way the industry is nowadays, if a game doesn't sell well then that developer has no job assurance they go down we're seeing examples of this for the last 10 years. how many times have people played a game that they enjoyed but was reviewed terribly this is the type of thing that is going to be affected because there is no physical copy of that game that developer is going to die and be irrelevant no one will ever see their work. not having physical media is a huge issue for the game industry and we as fans and gamers are losing big time. it is a completely different story when we're talking about PC because they have storefronts that can compete with each other Sony however does not have other competition when it comes to digital distribution on their consoles.

2 things I want to see from digital media: 1) if you buy it you own it so please support stop killing games 2) if physical copies are going away, we need a way to upload the game data on discs to be digital copies for game preservation

What’s best about Steam is, even if they stop selling the game, and/or remove it from the store, we still have access to it, it’s very rare they remove it completely and they only do that when it’s a fucked up situation kind of deal. 🙃

Agree with the steam stuff. I love steam. But with everything else, if buying isn't owning, then steXling isn't pXracy

Steam also lets you keep games that have lost licensing too, if you bought any of the marvel activision games, steam will let you keep them

I love steam but I don't pretend that at some point that they'll betray the trust they've built up. Like any company before them, they are only loyal to their customers until the shareholders demand .05% profit increase

Trust is what it boils down to. Steam has made time decisions I don't agree with, but on the whole they haven't done anything that violates their user's trust in their business. Sony and Microsoft have both made great contributions to gaming, but as corporate entities, both have made some anti consumer decisions. My concern is that this is giving more power to the corporate side of things and taking power from gamers. I can see a world where they attempt to normalize selling updates to games and delist older versions from stores and from your library.
