@destrrooy: the design of the iconic symbiote spider-man suit wasn't originally created by marvel, but instead by a fan. in 1982, marvel held a contest for new superhero costume ideas, and a fan named randy schueller submitted a concept where spider-man would wear a sleek black suit made of unstable molecules to solve the problem of his costume constantly getting damaged. marvel liked the concept so much that they bought the rights to it for $220 and later turned it into an alien symbiote, giving it a darker story and adding more depth to peter parker's character.
