Yusuf Cassim is a South African born in South Africa by South African parents, even his grandparents are South African. He was the first DASO president to win the SRC elections at NMMU in 2011 then went on to become the youngest member of parliament in 2015. He matriculated at Muir College in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape and holds a Bcom degree from NMMU. We were there when he became president of DASO he brought about real change in the institution and he led with integrity and transparency. This is a well deserved appointment and I look forward to seeing his refreshing approach as he transforms the Department of Higher Education!
