Without Jimenez’s art, this run would be absolutely forgettable. Fraction does not have a good understanding of how to write Batman the character, as you can see he’s writing him close to how he wrote Tony Stark in Invincible Iron Man. Also? The pacing issues have gotten so bad that the last issue required two BIG arrows from Jimenez pointing to past issues to give context to the situations in this one. Overall, pretty disappointed in this run.

Coming from the same guy that created Casanova, Hawkeye with David Aja, and Sex Criminals, Batman has, so far, been very mid for me 🤷‍♂️It's... fine. I guess. Competent storytelling but nothing groundbreaking.

I don’t know I actually really like this run. It’s not reinventing the wheel but it’s fun and I love the episodic nature of each issue being its own story. I’m excited to see where this run goes.

I might receive hate for what I’m going to say but I feel like Matt Fractions run is the same as all classic hero stories going on right now from both marvel and dc. I feel like it’s all the same and probably won’t get any crazy buzz unless they do something different. Which is the reason the absolute universe is highly successful. It’s a different take on the characters we love and enjoy. A fresh new start with more insane obstacles that threaten them like we haven’t seen before. The mainline Batman has been boring to me after the new 52 run. So has Spiderman which is why I don’t hear or see anyone talking about it at all and other characters. It’s just the writers finding more interesting ways to tell their stories but nothing too crazy. I’ll always root for all those characters especially Batman but I feel like they’re good for new readers who aren’t familiar with the character as much.
