@sonofamitch.therapy: What does therapy with a 3-year-old actually look like? 👀 👀 👀 👀 Most people picture a tiny couch and a therapist asking, "How does that make you feel?" The reality is usually Play-Doh, toy dinosaurs, coloring, blocks, games, and a lot of helping parents understand what's going on behind their child's behavior. I'm a therapist in Hawaii, and I wanted to pull back the curtain on what really happens during a typical child therapy session. This isn't a lecture or a graduate school class—it's the practical stuff I actually use every week with kids and their families. In this video I cover: 🧸 How I build trust with a young child 🎨 Why play is such an important part of therapy 👨‍👩‍👧 Why parents are one of the biggest parts of the process ⭐ The 5:1 praise ratio 🎯 My "Gotcha" positive reinforcement system 🌹 Rose, Bud, Thorn (High, Low, Buffalo) 🧠 Three simple emotional regulation strategies: • Push the Rock • Smell the Cookies, Blow Out the Candles • Be Grass One thing I want every parent to hear: There is no parent shaming here. If you're watching videos trying to learn how to help your child, you're already doing something important. None of us are perfect—including me. I have two young kids of my own, and trust me...they don't always listen to the therapist either. 😅 My goal with this account is simple: show what therapy actually looks like, share practical ideas that families can use, and hopefully make mental health feel a little less intimidating. I'll also be making videos about: ✔️ Toddlers ✔️ School-age kids ✔️ Teenagers ✔️ Anxiety ✔️ ADHD ✔️ Emotional regulation ✔️ Parenting ✔️ Play therapy ✔️ Mental health ✔️ What therapists actually do I'd love to know: What topic should I cover next? If you're a parent, what's the hardest part of parenting right now? If you're a therapist, what's one intervention you find yourself using all the time? Thanks for watching. I hope something in this video helps your family, even if it's just one small idea you can try today. #ChildTherapy #PlayTherapy #Parenting #ParentingTips #Toddler #ToddlerTantrums #MentalHealth #EmotionalRegulation #ChildDevelopment #PositiveParenting #Therapist #TherapistTok #SocialWork #MSW #LCSW #Kids #Family #Behavior #Tantrums #ADHD #Anxiety #SchoolCounselor #TeacherTok #MomTok #DadTok #ChildTherapy #Parenting #Toddler #PlayTherapy #MentalHealth #ParentingTips #Therapist #ToddlerTantrums #EmotionalRegulation #MomTok
