@apnews: The U.S. Justice Department and 17 states reached settlement agreements with three major egg producers this week to resolve allegations that the companies illegally colluded for years to raise prices, including when the cost soared to record highs last year. #eggprices #usa #justicedepartment
hmm, deliberately raising the prices of eggs when the price of eggs was everyone's main complaint about Biden. seems pretty calculated to help Trump win but what do I know?

3.3 million is truly nothing. They need to be fined more

until the fines exceed what their actual profits were, they haven’t been punished

I think it’s important here to say that these companies are aware of the legal implications before they do this. The profits vastly outweigh the fines they’ll have to pay; so they do it anyways.

unfriendly reminder this happens every couple years. the government gives them a fine thats a fraction of the profits they made. then they do it again.

Corporations colluding to manipulate prices and they're slapped with a fine that's equivalent to them losing a couple nickels. I'm sure this will stop them in the future from doing it again

$3.3 million. They made that in 10 minutes selling their overpriced eggs.

They profited 100s of billions, but only all pay 3m. That’s capitalism

$3.3 million is what they call “cost of doing business.” They don’t look at it as a punishment, but rather just another hurdle to overcome. STRONGER LEGISLATION!

Also, the farms that produce the eggs saw NO PART of the raised egg prices whatsoever.

Just to be clear, this is inflation. Market conditions conspiring to allow these companies to cheat and raise prices and keep them high is inflation. Especially since these fines do nothing to actually punish them and prevent them from doing it again.

we've seen this a bunch. one day eggs are a dollar, the next they're $10, then they go "back down" to $3. it's a sneaky way of raising prices long-term. gas and oil does this, corn, soybeans, orange juice.

That doesn't even cover the costs of pursuing the lawsuit.
