Bro, I follow you because you have intellectual honesty and the ability to make powerful arguments. I think we’re almost the same age, and I wanted to explain my point of view about something.
To me, films and movies are different things. Christopher Nolan makes films, not just movies. He tries to reach us on levels that you—and most of us—can’t even imagine. Sometimes we need time to process what he’s trying to say.
Try watching the film one more time. Watch it alone, at night, with no distractions. Feel Hans Zimmer’s score. Try to connect the dialogue with the music and the emotions. It’s not just about an interstellar journey. At its core, it’s about a father’s love. We need that kind of love today more than ever.
Try to pay attention to the dialogue between Cooper and Donald, and really feel it. I know it’s science fiction, but in some ways, parts of it could happen within our lifetime—maybe not in exactly the same way, but from a different perspective.
Give it one more chance.
The Prestige also moved up on my list after I watched it again. That’s one of the reasons I kept encouraging you to give Interstellar another chance.
One more thing: I saw Interstellar in theaters, and the experience was incredible. Hans Zimmer’s score, the performances, and seeing it all on the big screen… it was absolutely unforgettable.
