@englishtimeoutwithtenny: Something may sound convincing, yet that does not make it true. Neither does it mean it is complete or capable of withstanding the weight of reason, human experience, or the standards that hold society together. Too often, people embrace nonsense simply because it is delivered by influencers, content creators, celebrities, or other prominent voices. Popularity has become mistaken for credibility, and repetition for truth. Yet the sanity of any society is not preserved by passing trends or loud opinions. It is sustained by the enduring principles, values, and moral foundations that have enabled human civilisation to exist. Those timeless standards are what distinguish a civilised people from chaos, and they should remain the measure by which every new idea is judged. #fyp #creatorsearchinsights2026 #advice #marriage #gheghe @Eric Gugua @aproko doctor @VDM @Tunde Ednut

Beautiful. But it doesn't put things in clear perspectives. It is rather more subjective than objective. Marriage being a sign of civility is not really anchored to any empirical fact. So, I will be waiting for the second part where you defend your assertions with proofs.

So when Tennyson mentioned civility, I don’t think he was denying that marriage once had economic or political functions. Rather, he was referring to the evolution of marriage into a union that emphasizes commitment, fidelity, and shared responsibility instead of simply serving as a means of acquiring property, producing heirs, or displaying status.

Nice point Tennyson, Back in the days ancient marriage had nothing to do with love or religion. It was an economic contract used to distribute property, secure trade alliances between families, and guarantee the biological legitimacy of heirs. The concept of marrying for love only gained mainstream traction in Western society during the 18th century, heavily pushed by the Enlightenment and romantic literature. Before this, marrying for love was often seen as a reckless financial risk.
