OK we know as Leaders that it’s our job to manage the people who report to us…but we often forget that managing up is as important as managing down. Here are 5 mistakes leaders make when managing up. Hi, I’m Mel - I’m an exec coach for pre-executives who want to be better leaders in their career. If that’s you - then make sure you give me a follow. OK - here are the 5 mistakes Mistake #1#1You don’t see it as part of the job. Consider yourself the orchestrator of results. And your orchestra includes senior management. If you’re not leading them, then your results may fall flat. Mistake #2#2You only manage up when there's a problem… Look I get it, there’s a lot going on… but when you don’t consistently manage up, you create MORE work for yourself - not less. AND… you may find that managing up actually mitigates a lot of problems in the first place. Mistake #3: You #3it for them to lead. You think because they’re more senior, they should be the ones leading the relationship. That’s a thought error. The bosses need guidance too. And when you’re in charge of the results, you’re in charge of guiding them. Mistake #4: You#4hink “the bosses” are supposed to make it easy for you. Well that would be nice, but that’s rarely the case. Successfully managing up means making it easy for them to help you get the results you want. Mistake #5: You’#5 intimidated by them. The bosses are going to ask you to do crazy shit, and download tons of work, and if you keep telling yourself “I have no choice cause they’re the boss”, then you’re done. Managing up here means creating calm in chaos… even if the chaos is coming from the top. #leadershi#leadershiptoki#leadershipr#bealeaderi#leadershipskillse#executivecoache#corporatelifen#successincorporateu#managingup
