![This month in 1987, Genesis released “In Too Deep” as the final single from “Invisible Touch” in the US. Whilst already written for the album, the lyrics were later reworked to fit the film “Mona Lisa” after Phil was approached by Ray Cooper for a song to use in the soundtrack. The song was a commercial success and charted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. “The song was already there. Ray Cooper rang me up and he [asked], did I have a song, could I write a song for this film? And I said no, because we’re working on the Genesis album. But I said maybe, because we had such a lot of material, that maybe we could find something that would suit. So he sent a cassette of the film along, a rough cut, and we saw it… Anyway, we had this song written. And I just changed the lyrics so that it would work for the story of the film.
