Save this restaurant if you’re planning a trip to Marrakech 🇲🇦 Morocco is a male led country. Not here. Sahbi Sahbi means soul sisters in Darija, the local Moroccan dialect. As you enter every chef, every person who greets you at the door, every smile that makes you feel like the most important table in the room is a woman. In Morocco, the greatest recipes are traditionally kept secret, passed down quietly from the Dadas, the women who have always been the true keepers of Moroccan cuisine. This restaurant exists to change that. To bring those recipes out of hiding and share them. Book ahead. This place fills up fast and does not apologise for it. Sit at the bar if you can. The tajines are cooked one at a time by a chef who walks back and forth lifting the lids to check the steam. You watch it happen right in front of you. The smell alone is worth the reservation. We started with the shared salad plate. Four dishes from a list that changes with the season. The carrots zaalouk stopped us both. It was just carrot. That’s it. We talked about it for days. The charmoula prawns tajine arrives with a lid lifted at the table. A cloud of steam rises and fills the air around you with something that makes every table nearby turn to look. The seabass was the best fish we had in all of Marrakech. Do not skip dessert even though you will not think you need it. The Jouhara floating island is enormous and you will not share it. And before you leave, order the basil lemonade. It is the best thing in a glass we had in Morocco. (Sorry but not sorry mint tea 🤷‍♂️) Good to know: Open Tuesday to Sunday from 7pm.
