If this becomes normalized, the digital only version of the playstation might eventually become the only available console type, in other words, consoles might lose the CD reader completely if the companies no longer have the need for every console to have a CD reader, by making everything digital, they might be able to just go to an account and place online games behind a paywall or deactivate the games from your Library more easily (mainly old games where the servers might've shut down) or just make it obligatory to pay for some kind of subscription in order to play the games you payed for
