This is what I don't get about programming languages. You'll get a new language come out and they'll say something like "we have this new keyword called Unit, it does exactly the same as void in other languages". why can't we have a standardised way of doing things if they work exactly the same way between languages?

In Python you can't write else if like other languages like C++ or Java/C# You have to write a extra character if True: pass else: if False: pass else: pass So they added "elif"

Else if and elif both fail fast. It’s not to save typing, it’s to clarify intent. Python was created to address common coding errors. It distinguishes the difference between a nested if block in an else block and an if as an alternate cascaded if. Visually, you see elif, and know that it’s another cascading condition without having to remember that python would require a new line and indentation level for the nested if. Intent is clear, and easy to recognize
