@mitchthetaxman: HMRC is sending more letters claiming companies are “associated”… but are they right? We’ve recently seen a growing number of business owners contacted by HMRC after its systems have linked companies together using Companies House information. The problem is that being a director or shareholder in multiple companies does not automatically make them associated for corporation tax purposes. The legislation is based on control, and the rules are far more complex than many people realise. If HMRC incorrectly treats your companies as associated, it could reduce your corporation tax thresholds and leave you paying more tax than necessary. Never assume an HMRC letter is automatically correct. If you’ve received one, it’s worth having the position reviewed before accepting their conclusion. #CorporationTax #HMRC #TaxAdvice #BusinessOwner #LimitedCompany
