Now if you add in deathtouch though, you can assign 1 point of lethal damage, then the rest can trample to the player

Fun fact death touch trample only assigns one damage to each creature blocking. The rest tramples over

Damage is doubled as its delt, not as it's assigned to put it another way

that seems wrong and weird
just double the dmg to 10
kill the creature with 4, trample for 6
yeahhhhh

Hello,
If trample is about lethal dmgs.
Then an undestructible creature which would ignore lethal state-base action could not be trampled on?
I'm asking, I'm not sure to understand.

it's funny that trample says that but deathtouch totally works the way you would intuitively think it should

paused at the question to lock in my answer.
damage doublers kick in when damage is dealt. it's not like deathtouch that has lethal built in to every point of damage. trample is about assigning damage, it's no longer paying attention at the combat damage step

The plain language states "if... would deal damage to a ____, it deals double instead". Snake would be dealt 4. So double as 8. Simple and clear. 1 remaining would pass through with trample. So double as 2. I don't see what the alternative interpretation would be.

Would like a video explaining the difference between this and Trample/D*athtouch because I thought you can assign the 1 point if they have that combination?

Trample damage is also optional, which blows a lot of people's minds. If you have effects that care about "excess damage dealt" you can choose not to trample over creatures if doing so would trigger those effects. like if you gave Zangief trample

Love the breakdown! If you haven’t, would you do one on exchanging life totals when players can’t gain life? Recently had a game where this became an issue and a lot of long time players had it wrong.

but deathtouch considers 1 damage lethal, no matter the health, right? so a deathtouch trample would only have to assign 1 damage, right?

Trevor :
This does and doesn’t make sense… because if I deal 5 damage and you block with a 4. As I’m attacking, the effect would trigger doubling all damage. So when I hit you for 10… only 4 is needed for lethal and you should take 6.

but deathtouch makes lethal damage 1, and tou cam trample the rest. So an ability can change trample or am i wrong?
