@tequilakayf: The best thing I ever did was stop listening to people who claimed to love me or have my best interests at heart. I stifled and shut down the unique parts that made me for most of my years all because that's what I thought I was supposed to do. I believed people who claimed my best interests but in reality wanted to stamp out my light. Good girls don't do that. Wives don't do that. Mothers don't do that. Good employees don't do that. Business owners don't do that. No elbows on the table, chew with your mouth closed, don't wear white after Labor Day, if you loved me you wouldn't..... the list goes on and on. So now I don't wear turtlenecks and long sleeves to hide my body, I don't sit quietly and dance in my head where only I can see, I don't stay silent when I see evil and I no longer water myself down for fear that I won't be liked or loved.
