Gather all of your supplies, including one or two slices of soft white sandwich bread, softened butter that is easy to spread, a butter knife, rainbow sprinkles, and a plate. Place the slice of bread flat in the center of the plate, making sure it is lying evenly and is not folded or torn. If the butter has been in the refrigerator, allow it to sit at room temperature until it becomes soft enough to spread smoothly without ripping the bread. Using the butter knife, scoop up a small amount of butter and place it in the middle of the bread. Starting from the center, gently spread the butter outward using slow, smooth strokes, moving the knife toward each edge until the entire surface of the bread is covered in a thin, even layer. Check carefully for any dry spots or places where the bread is still visible without butter, and add a little more butter if needed so every part of the top of the bread is coated, including the corners and edges. Once the bread is completely buttered, open the container of rainbow sprinkles and hold it a few inches above the bread. Slowly shake or sprinkle the sprinkles over the buttered surface, moving your hand back and forth to distribute them as evenly as possible.
