The SR-71 Blackbird is considered one of the most incredible aircraft ever built because it was unbelievably ahead of its time. Created in the 1960s, it could fly faster than Mach 3 — over 3,500 km/h — and higher than 85,000 feet. That means it was flying at the edge of space, faster than most missiles could catch it. At top speed, the plane became so hot that its metal body actually expanded during flight. It was built mostly out of titanium just to survive the extreme heat. And the craziest part? No SR-71 was ever shot down. If a missile was launched at it, the pilot would simply accelerate and leave it behind. It wasn’t built to fight. It was built to see everything, take photos, gather intelligence, and get out before anyone could stop it. Even today, decades later, very few aircraft can match what the Blackbird was doing in the 1960s. #sr71 #usaf #HistoryTime #airplanes
