This painting is Pavilion Among Pines by the brilliant Ming Dynasty artist Tang Yin (Tang Bohu), now housed in the National Palace Museum, Taipei. In the scene, a thatched pavilion nestles against a rocky cliff, embraced by ancient pines. Two old friends converse late into the night, while a young servant dozes soundly outside. Tang Yin's own inscription reads:

These lines capture his longing for a kindred spirit and his retreat into nature after a devastating imperial examination scandal. Emperor Qianlong later added his own poem, infusing this masterpiece with imperial significance.
