Today, Leeds Crown Court sentenced Scholes resident Steven Abbott, 45, to seven years in prison and a ten-year sexual harm prevention order. He was found guilty of six sexual crimes, including touching and assault. Abbott had been found guilty by a jury in July this year after standing trial accused of the charges, which were committed against a vulnerable female minor. Steven Abbott, 45, from Scholes, was sentenced to seven years in prison and made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order at Leeds Crown Court today. The court heard he sexually abused the woman between 2017 and 2020. She reported the offence in 2020, prompting her parents to call Kirklees Police. The Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit started a thorough investigation. Abbott was detained in July 2020 and subsequently charged. Following his release from prison, he will be compelled to sign on the sexual offences registry.
